A Letter from Ms. Bartl
Tuesday, September 13, 2016 8:10 AM

Dear Families,

As we approach mid-September, we are in full swing. We concluded our second week of school by celebrating all of the hard work students and teachers have done to set a positive tone for learning and to learn important academic and social rituals and routines. I hope your children are coming home excited and eager to share some of what they are learning in their various subjects and specialists classes!

This week, our teachers will be hosting curriculum nights. This is a great opportunity for families to hear more about what your children are learning at each grade level. These nights are intended to give families the opportunity to inquire about curriculum and gain insight into your child's day. In addition to learning about curriculum, information will be provided about some of the after-school opportunities that will soon be available to Burroughs students. Dates and times for curriculum nights are listed in the events calendar. If you are unable to attend, please look for communication coming home from your child's teacher regarding curriculum, after-school programming, and other important grade-level announcements.

Please make note of the following:

  • Drop-off/Pick-up Circle—Construction on 50th should wrap up soon. We will keep families updated on when the drop-off/pick-up circle will reopen. Thank you all for your patience and flexibility during this time.
  • Dismissal—This is an extremely busy time of day. Please communicate to the teacher or office in person or in writing well in advance of dismissal time if your child will be going home in an alternative way, i.e,. instead of taking the bus home, they will be picked up or have permission to walk to their destination, etc.
  • School-Spirit Fridays—Celebrate your Burroughs Spirit every Friday. Encourage your children to wear our Burroughs colors (navy and yellow) or any Burroughs gear they have.
  • Additional Recess—In addition to the 15 minutes of recess that all students receive after lunch, classroom teachers will be providing 10 to 15 minutes of additional daily recess or a movement break. Please pay attention to the weather, and send your children to school with comfortable outdoor attire.

Please feel free to reach out by phone, email, or in person, with any questions that may arise. I look forward to seeing many of you over the next couple of weeks!

Sincerely,
Ana Bartl, Principal
