A Letter from Ms. Bartl and Ms. Woods
Tuesday, September 06, 2016 8:50 AM

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!

We are off to a great start! We have enjoyed getting to know students, families, and staff over the last couple of weeks.

This transition into a new school year is both exciting and challenging as we all are getting back into the routine of school. Our goal these first few weeks of school is to build relationships, learn important rituals and routines that will support social and academic learning, and, of course, have fun! We hope that your children are coming home smiling and wanting to share about their days at school.

You can expect the Burroughs Bulletin every Tuesday, which is compiled by our parent volunteer editors. It will have pertinent information regarding events at school. Articles from the Bulletin also will be available on our website. If you know families who don't receive the Bulletin, they can opt in for this communication on the Burroughs website by selecting Email Updates on the left-hand side of the page.

We are fortunate at Burroughs to have parents who commit a great deal of time and energy to so many aspects of our school. There are many ways to be involved, both in and out of the classroom. Be sure to check out the volunteer link on our website to learn about volunteering at Burroughs. Also, be sure to watch the Bulletin for volunteering opportunities that come up all year long, and join us at any PTA meetings throughout the year to learn more about what's happening at school. (The first is on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:30 pm.)

Two announcements to kick off the school-year:

  • School Spirit Fridays—Celebrate your Burroughs Spirit every Friday! Encourage your children to wear our Burroughs colors (navy and yellow) or any Burroughs gear they have.
  • Additional Recess—In addition to the 15 minutes of recess that all students receive after lunch, classroom teachers will be providing 10-15 minutes of additional daily recess or a movement break. Please pay attention to the weather and send your children to school with comfortable outdoor attire.

We are excited about the school year ahead and look forward to getting to know all of our students and families as we continue to build a community of learning.

Kelly Woods, Assistant Principal
