My name is Jen Feriancek and I am a Licensed K-6 Teacher and a Certified Mindfulness Instructor. Through this exciting project, students and staff will be introduced to the "Mindful Schools" Curriculum—learning strategies to help us better cope with the daily stressors in life. Benefits of mindfulness education include: improved attention and focus, emotional regulation, increased awareness and adaptability, growing compassion for self and others, calming the body and mind, improved resilience, and greater balance.
Families are encouraged to participate in the Mindfulness Project, as well! Look for email updates on strategies your child is learning in class, ask them about their Mindfulness "tools" and give these activities a try yourself. Children are often empowered when they can teach the adults in their life something new! You are also welcome to join us for a "Mindfulness for Families" event at Burroughs on Tuesday, March 7 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. I will be sharing some of the same Mindfulness lessons as I have in class, we will talk about the stresses of parenting and share a few fun Mindfulness activities you can try with your family.
