Destination Imagination Team Advances to Next Round
Monday, April 07, 2014 8:25 AM

Congratulations to the “Burroughs Out of Season Santas” (a.k.a. the B.O.S.S.) for the team’s performance at the Destination Imagination Tournament on March 22. This team of seven 3rd graders from Mr. Moen's and Mr. Kroening's class included: Xander K., Nickolas N., Avery R., Nora S., Erik W., Marcus W., and Reece W. The group won Third Place in the tournament and will be advancing to the state tournament on April 12!

Additionally, this Burroughs team received the DaVinci Award, which is given to one team per tournament (out of 80 K-12 teams competing). This Outstanding Creativity award is given to the team that "most clearly demonstrates the spirit of adventurous risk in their solutions--those who most creatively traveled to reach new and unique destinations." The B.O.S.S. team demonstrated this creative skill to its fullest!

The team began its challenge by researching a specific work of art:  Ganymede and the Eagle (located in the MIA). Next, team members created an “ARTifact” inspired by this work of art, and they created a Caption Contraption to use in three live comic-strip panels that tell a story about the art. In the B.O.S.S. comic strip, the team shares an entertaining version of what happens when Ganymede poisons the waters on Mt. Olympus.

Thank you to all of the Burroughs teams that participated in the tournament and represented our school. If you would like to cheer on our team at the state tournament, please join us on April 12 at 1 pm at Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy (Nature Room), 6100 109th Ave. N., Champlin.
