The 2016 Read-A-Thon is underway!

Burroughs students can look forward to a VERY GOOD month of reading! The fifth graders announced in last week's read-a-thon Opening Ceremony skit that this year's theme is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and challenged students to read 2 million minutes in the month of February. If they meet the challenge, Principal Cadotte will experience a very bad day that will include wrestling an alligator at the Closing Ceremony on Friday, March 18.

Students received their read-a-thon information packets on Friday, which include instructions, a tally sheet, and an envelope for collecting forms and fundraising money. Students can set up an online account on GiveMN.org to collect funds. All forms and money should be returned by March 4.

Check out the full list in the packet to see how the read-a-thon prizes stack up. All participants receive bubble gum and a gift certificate to George and the Dragon. Additional prizes include Angie's Popcorn, a cookie from Patisserie 46, the official read-a-thon t-shirt, and much more. Top readers and top fundraisers will be entered in a drawing to receive one of three Kindle Fires. Check the Burroughs website for all Read-a-thon information, including a PDF of the read-a-thon packet. Extra packets can also be picked up in the Burroughs office.

So grab those books and start tracking those minutes as we kick off another fantastic read-a-thon!
