Join Us This Morning! Opening Ceremony Kicks Off Read-a-Thon
Tuesday, January 31, 2017 8:00 AM

The 2017 Read-a-Thon opening ceremony is TODAY, Tuesday, January 31 at 9:30 am in the Burroughs gym.

If you can't make it this morning, we'll let you in on a secret! During the opening ceremony skit, the fifth-grade class will unveil this year's featured book, authored by Kate DiCamillo, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The Read-a-Thon begins the next day on February 1.

Packets are being sent home with each child today and include a tally form, prize sheet, and more information. Using the tally form, all students will keep track of their reading throughout the month. Read-a-Thon packets and forms will also be available on the Burroughs web site.

Why the Read-a-Thon?
Our annual Read-a-Thon inspires kids to read and raises needed funds for the Burroughs PTA. A large portion of the PTA budget comes from this successful annual event. This year, winning a T-shirt is based on number of minutes read instead of the amount of funds raised. Journals will be awarded to fundraisers of $125 or more.

Fundraising Tips
An easy way to help your child fundraise is to set up a fundraising site on the Burroughs Community School page on Give MN. Families with multiple children: Please complete forms and send in funds for each child individually. It helps the tally night go smoothly and ensures that funds are attributed to children correctly.

Thank you for participating in this year's Read-a-Thon. Each child inspired to read, and each dollar raised, positively contributes to our Burroughs community.

Parents, if you'd like to read to your child's class, sign up here.
