March 28 PTA Meeting
Tuesday, March 21, 2017 8:00 AM
Burroughs Parents, we need you! The PTA meets Tuesday, March 28 at 6:30 pm to answer these questions and more:
How much money does PTA have in its budget and what has it paid for this year?
Who would make great candidates for several open PTA leadership positions in 2017-2018?
Why are amendments to the PTA bylaws needed?
Each of these subjects will become PTA action items at the end of the April – the March 28 meeting will help you get a handle on the issues. Free childcare for kids age 3 and up is provided during the meeting.

Fix-It Clinic A Success
Tuesday, March 21, 2017 7:50 AM
Thank you, Burroughs families! The Hennepin County Fix-It Clinic held at the Burroughs cafeteria on Saturday March 11 was a big success. We had 128 people visit, which broke the previous record of 125 people. People brought 181 items, of which 144 were fixed or are on their way to being fixed, for an 80% fix rate. Popular items were lamps, vacuums, and toys. We helped divert 767 pounds from the waste stream! Thank you Burroughs families, the Lynnhurst Environmental Committee, and the whole neighborhood for making it a success.
Burroughs PTA Bylaws are Out of Date
Tuesday, March 21, 2017 7:40 AM
Please Review Proposed Changes
The Bylaws that govern the Burroughs PTA were last updated 5 years ago. A few changes to those rules are needed to create a more responsive organization to the needs of the Burroughs community. For example, the current Executive Board has proposed:
Adding a new Volunteer Coordinator position to increase communication of volunteer opportunities for parents
Providing greater support to the significant financial management responsibilities that a large and well-funded PTA requires.
See the Burroughs website to review the proposed amendments to the bylaws. If PTA members would like to suggest additional amendments, please contact Lesley Farmer. Discussion of proposed amendments will take place at the March 28 PTA meeting; action to change the bylaws will follow at the April meeting.
