Note from the Principal

Dear Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful and safe holiday season. Despite the frigid temperatures, we've had an exciting week back at school and are looking forward to a fun month ahead.

Some highlights of the first week in January included the Student Council's announcement of our new school mascot (the bobcat) and the fourth- and fifth-grade downhill ski trip to Hyland Hills. Other events this month include the Fifth-Grade Spelling Bee, a variety of outdoor winter activities in PE, and the Read-a-Thon opening ceremony at the end of the month.

In addition to these fun events, our first- through fifth-graders are taking the Winter MAP test. This test provides teachers with good information about how students are progressing in math and reading and helps teachers to make important instructional decisions as we move into the second semester of the school year.

I look forward to seeing many of you throughout the month ahead. Please note that on Tuesday, January 17 from 6 to 7:30 pm, we invite families to join us for a conversation about what we can do to enhance the positive climate of our school and ensure that Burroughs is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment.

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions that may arise.

Stay Warm!
