Dear Families,

There's nothing so amazing as the Read-a-Thon Opening Ceremony! I love to see so many families attending. I'd like to express my gratitude for the Read-a-Thon committee members, who are working tirelessly to make "I Love to Read Month" an engaging and memorable time for our students. Our theme this year is based on a book by Kate DiCamillo, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The purpose of "I Love to Read Month" is to get kids excited about reading. To this end, classrooms will be doing activities throughout the month to expose students to a variety of books, authors, and to encourage a love of reading. There are also many opportunities for volunteers to come in to read to classes. Look for a packet coming home that gives the full details of the Burroughs Read-a-Thon.

In addition to the Read-a-Thon, February brings the fourth-grade camping trip to Deep Portage, National African-American Family Involvement Day, and parent/teacher conferences. Winter conferences are an important opportunity for families to learn about the progress of their child. Information about how to sign up for conferences will be in classroom newsletters next week. If you have any trouble signing up, please contact your child's teacher for assistance.

Please make sure to check out the announcements and important dates below. As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions that may arise.

Sincerely,

Ana Bartl
Principal
