Note from the Principal
Tuesday, March 21, 2017 8:30 AM

Dear Families,

Happy Spring! Last week sure ended on a fun note. It was great to see so many families and hear the enthusiasm of the students when the number of minutes read was unveiled. Wow, as a school we read 2,745,598 minutes which was about 300,000 more minutes than last year! The 2017 Burroughs Read-a-Thon was a successful community building and fundraising event! Thanks you to all! The week ahead brings more excitement as classrooms celebrate their reading accomplishments.

Over the next two weeks, we will be wrapping up the third quarter of the school year. Time flies! The final quarter of the school year will be full of engaging learning opportunities for students. In addition, this time of year brings our final round of testing. In April, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments and in grades 1 and 2 students will take the Spring MAP. More information about these assessments and the spring testing calendar will be communicated in the weeks to come.

The 4th quarter of the year also brings about planning for the next school year. With the budget in place, we will begin planning for programming to meet the needs of all of our students and which aligns to the priorities outlined in our district’s strategic plan. These priorities include:

  1. Improved student outcomes
  2. Equity
  3. Student, family and community engagement
  4. Effective teachers, school leaders, and staff
  5. Stewardship
  6. Resources for students and schools

You will find more details regarding the strategic plan at www.mpls.k12.mn.us/strategic_plan. Our budget decisions will be shared on March 28 at our site council and PTA meetings.

Please make sure to check out the announcements and important dates below. As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions that may arise.

Sincerely,
Ana Bartl
Principal
