I hope you all had a wonderful spring break! I've heard from many of your children about all of the fun and adventures they had.
On Wednesday of last week, we hosted an assembly called The NED Show. This event aligned with our positive school-wide engagement efforts with the purpose of sending a message of motivation and encouragement as we launch into the last quarter of the school year. I'm sure you have heard a lot from your children about this event as it was quite engaging. The yo-yos have been a hit and a great opportunity to discuss perseverance as students are practicing their yo-yo skills. The proceeds from the yo-yo sales go to "pay it forward" so that another school can benefit from this event.
I know many of you are aware of a few budget decisions we had to make in March. I am happy to say that although Burroughs was impacted, the impact was not nearly as great as at some of our neighboring schools. We are fortunate that for next school year, we were able to create a budget that maintained our core academic programming. Due to a 2.5 percent budget decrease at every school in Minneapolis Public Schools, in addition to a couple of board policies that prohibited us from using some of our funds in ways that they have been used in the past, we did have to make a few difficult decisions to reduce our budget in the areas of math intervention, content specialists, and associate educator hours. I want to emphasize that these areas were reduced, not eliminated. These reductions will require us to be creative about how we use our resources, and over the next few weeks, we will be working to finalize plans for next school year. I am confident that we will continue to provide our students with a well-rounded and academically rigorous education.
This week, spring MCA and MAP testing began. In addition to testing, the next few weeks are full of fun events: grade-level music concerts, campus clean-up day, and our auditorium dedication ceremony for Mr. Cadotte.
