Note from the Principal
Tuesday, March 13, 2018 2:30 PM

Dear Families,

Read-a-thon pledges are in, minutes are counted, and the 5th graders are back at
rehearsal for the upcoming closing ceremony! Will Mrs. Bartl have to walk the
plank? If it means that our students engaged in lots of reading during the month of
February, then I sure hope so! Please join us on Friday, March 23 at 9:30 am to
see if our students met their reading goal of 2,000,000 minutes.

We had a great turn out of families and staff at last Thursday's event featuring
the editor of and two contributing authors to A Good Time for theTruth. This
event was a wonderful opportunity for our community to listen, ask questions, and
contemplate how each of us can contribute to making Burroughs a place where all
students and families feel valued and respected. I look forward to continuing these
important conversations about bias, race, and how we talk about race with our
children. In April we will continue the conversations that were started last week.
Thank you to the PTA, and the Burroughs Positive School Wide Engagement and
Racial Equity teams for sponsoring and supporting this event!

Please make sure to check out the announcements and important dates below. As
always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions that may arise.

Sincerely,
Ana Bartl
