Dear Families,

To begin with, I'd like to express my deep gratitude for all of the well wishes I have received since announcing the news of the adoption opportunity that my family and I recently accepted. As we all know, nothing in life is a guarantee and in the case of adoption this is no exception. Late last week, my husband and I were informed that this opportunity would no longer be taking place. Although we are saddened by this news, I am confident that another opportunity will eventually come our way, and I will of course keep the community in the loop if and when another something comes to fruition.

Last week, I spoke briefly to our Burroughs Community School Mission:

Our mission is a commitment to inspire all students to be College, Career,
and Life Ready, well-educated with a sense of determination, bravery,
and the capacity to fulfill their aspirations. Burroughs students will be Global Citizens who give back to society and continue to be life-long learners.

Thank you to all who share your time, ideas, and resources to help us make this mission come to life. Below are just a few of the things that we do to support this mission during the school day:
  • Morning Meetings every day in all classrooms to set a positive and supportive tone for the day.
  • Teachers implementing 2nd Step, a social emotional learning curriculum.
  • 5th grade leaders giving announcements every Monday about "The Burroughs Way" - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.
  • Learning experiences in classrooms that are relevant to students and connected to life outside of school walls.
I look forward to deepening our partnerships in the year ahead as we engage in the next steps of our community visioning process to develop a vision of Burroughs that supports our students' growth towards this mission. In the weeks to come I will be sharing information on how to get involved with the next phase of the visioning process. With the Thanksgiving Holiday upon us, I want to again share my gratitude for each and every student, family, teacher, and staff member in our community. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of the Burroughs community. Thank you for sharing your children with us! Have a safe Holiday weekend.

Sincerely,

Ana Bartl
