ANTI-BULLYING PARENT LIAISON Chair: OPEN

ART ADVENTURE Chairs: Kelly Bent kellybent@yahoo.com and Katie Cronin thecronins@mac.com. Attend training through the Minneapolis Institute of Art, present selected works of art in assigned classrooms, incorporate an art project as part of the lesson. Takes place in November. (October-November)

ART SHOW HELPERS Chair:  Mr. Pilon would like a committee to help him set up next year's Art Show. Activities would include organizing the art pieces and preparing them for display in the shows. (May)

BOOK FAIR Chairs: Wendy Moore moore5029@yahoo.com and Lisa Van Asten. Prepare and assist with the Book Fair, Burroughs second largest fund raiser. This event brings students and their families in for an opportunity to buy books for themselves, for their teachers and for others. (October).

BOOK FAIR PIZZA AND DESSERT BUFFET Chairs: Amy Jo Hyde ajhyde@bsmschool.org and Marta Frabonimnfraboni@gmail.com. Work half-hour time slots serving pizza and desserts, busing tables or helping with clean up the day of the Book Fair. (October)

BRAVO Chair: Leslie Satterlee leslie.satterlee@gmail.com. Present classical music appreciation lessons to assigned classrooms 6 times (30 minutes per lesson). There are two training sessions (one hour each). Training takes place in October and February; lessons to the children will be ongoing through the year. (All School Year)

BURROUGHS BULLETIN Chair: Lisa Thiegs lthiegs@goldengate.net. Participate in the organizing, writing, editing, translation and copying of Burroughs weekly publication. (All School Year)

BURROUGHS SILENT AUCTION Chairs: Jocelyn Frank jocelyn.m.frank@gmail.com, Regina Folken rsfolken@mac.com, and Amy Simso Dean asimsodean@gmail.com. Help coordinate the Silent Auction in association with the Site Council. In 2008, the silent auction was held to benefit the Burroughs School Fund. Raising over $13,000 for our school, the auction featured 150 items, including tickets to Timberwolves, Twins and Wild games, a sailing trip on Lake Minnetonka, professional services, and gift certificates for neighborhood stores and restaurants. Not surprisingly, the most popular items were special events with teachers. (November)

DESTINATION IMAGINATION Chair: Jen Thorp jthorp@spacia.org. Destination Imagination is an after school enrichment program where teams of 5-7 students develop answers to four or five challenges about diverse topics. Students then compete against their peers. (All School Year)

EZBuck$ FOR BURROUGHS! Chair: Jackie Dols jackiedols@gmail.com. (Formerly known as Corporate Programs.) Assist in coordinating painless fundraising activities which result in corporate “funding” for Burroughs: publicizing and increasing participation in the Target Charge Card program, General Mills “Box Tops for Education” program and investigating additional options. (All School Year)

5th GRADE GRADUATION CEREMONY Chair: Nicole Claeson nclaeson@gmail.com. Help with graduation day festivities including certificates, program, video show, etc.  (June)

LEGO LEAGUE Chair: Jonathan King burroughs.legos@gmail.com. Lego League needs coaches to work with small groups of kids helping them prepare for a Lego League competition. This will include helping with research presentations and building robots made using LEGO Mindstorms kits. This is a 3 to 4 month commitment, 1 to 2 days per week. (All School Year)

LIBRARY/MEDIA Chair: Linda Frederickson linda.frederickson@mpls.k12.mn.us or 612-668-3280. Come and help with this fun and very important job. The media center needs committed and consistent volunteers to shelve, process, and repair books. Volunteers are essential to help the library function smoothly and serve our students in the best way. (All School Year)

LUNCH ROOM Chairs: Stacy Thoma sthoma5@hotmail.com and Anne Leo anneleo71@yahoo.comYour child will be so excited when they come into the lunchroom and you are there! Volunteers are needed daily from 11:05- 12:15 to help monitor the lunch room. You will provide an extra set of hands and eyes to assist the staff (usually Mr. Cadotte, Ms. Hart and Miss Alvarez). (All School Year)

READ-A-THON Chairs: Joanne Rosenstein samuelrosenstein6316@msn.com and Mary Dolan mary1dolan@hotmail.com. This is our major fund raiser which takes place in February. It involves assisting with developing a theme, deciding on and soliciting prizes, preparing and distributing participation packets to students and teachers, keeping the enthusiasm going, tallying results, organizing guest readers, distributing prizes and planning the opening and closing ceremonies. Large and small volunteer opportunities available during the day and evening. (December-March)

SCHOOL GROUNDS Chair: Ann Gardner aokermangardner@gmail.com. (Formerly known as Landscaping and Courtyard Garden.) Help keep the plants around Burroughs looking alive and healthy while discouraging weeds. Assist teachers in utilizing the courtyard as an extension to classroom activities. Tasks may include occasional planting, watering, weeding, and helping with our fall and spring clean-up days. No gardening experience necessary. (Fall/Spring)

SCHOOL PICTURES Chair: Elizabeth LaSalle lasallepack@yahoo.com. Assist teachers in escorting students to photo sessions and help with minor grooming. (October and May)

TUTORING Chair: Nicole Melancon nmmelancon@yahoo.com. Tutor Burroughs students one or more hours per week, usually in math or reading.  Requirements: ability to read and do basic math, availability during school hours. (All School Year)

WEBSITE Chair: Pone Vongsouvan pone.vongsouvan@mpls.k12.mn.usHelp editing content on the website, including providing support for teachers and specialists as they maintain their sections of the website. No HTML knowledge required. (All School Year)

YEARBOOK Chair: Beth Alvarez beth.alvarez@mpls.k12.mn.us or 612-668-3280. Help with yearbook photos, design, assembly, order forms and distribution. The yearbook publishers supply the format information, supplies and any assistance needed. (May)
