Quick facts about summer school
Monday, April 18, 2011 2:35 PM

1. All students who were in the “yellow” or “red” zone for either reading or math on the Fall or Winter MAP or MCA tests were invited to participate in summer school. These children are not necessarily below grade level. Yellow zone scores are generally at grade level but indicate that the student could use some extra support to make a strong entrance into the next grade level. The goal is for more students to enter the next grade level with stronger reading and math skills as well as more confidence in their abilities.
2. The district purchased new summer-school material last summer. The theme is science with a strong reading and math focus. It is intended to make learning fun.
3. Teachers do not apply for summer-school positions until April 18th, and their placement happens between April 25th and May 1st
4. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher, Mr. Catchings, or Ms. Alvarez.
