Maggie Vecchio-Smith - Principal
Burroughs is a beautiful school with a rich history of excellence, and I am very eager to begin serving as your new principal. This introduction will share a bit of my academic and professional history, some personal information, and some hopes and plans for the coming months.
I have been an educator since graduating from Smith College in 1999. I was a 4th and 5th grade teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin district and at Creek Valley in Edina. While teaching, I attended the University of Minnesota where I earned my master's in children's literature and a certificate in leading professional development. A few years later I went back to the U of M and completed my doctorate and administrative licensure. I joined Earle Brown Elementary (now Brooklyn Center Elementary) as the assessment coordinator and later became an assistant principal at the same school. For the past three years I have been an assistant principal at Adams Elementary. I also served as the interim principal at Adams from March of 2020 - January of 2021.
I live with my family (husband, 13 and 11 year old sons, and a hound dog) just a few miles away in Edina. In my spare time I can be found reading, driving my children to swimming, gymnastics, tuba, and trumpet, or playing (pretty badly) on a women’s hockey team.
I look forward to partnering with the PTA and Site Council to celebrate and honor current traditions while also starting some new ones, and I have enjoyed beginning to meet students and families over the past few weeks.
Sofia Bossard - Assistant Principal
Hello Burroughs families!
It has been an amazing journey getting to be part of the Burroughs community, and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Your child (children) are all unique, strong, and amazing, and I look forward to building relationships with all.
This is my fourth year as an Assistant Principal, and I was most recently the Assistant Principal at Hale Community School. I appreciate the journey of learning each and every day. I am a doctoral candidate at St. Cloud State, and joke that I will stay in school forever! Education is one of the greatest values in my family. I am originally from Bulgaria and my husband is French so we go back and forth between three languages at home. Our four year old twins, Theo and Tobias provide us with strength, resilience, and unconditional love ( and lots of messes at home and life!) In my free time, I do running, painting and drawing, biking with the twins, and exploring every playground we can find in the Twin Cities area.
community has been so welcoming to me, and I appreciate you all. Please, do not
hesitate to reach out - relationships are the most important in partnering on
this journey for your child's (children's) education!
