Important School Announcements
End of Year Celebrations and Volunteers
Some Families have asked about end of year celebrations. We recognize that there is much to celebrate and acknowledge after this historic year yet out of continued caution, Burroughs will not be hosting any large scale, school sponsored, end of year family events. Classrooms will have end of the year celebrations during the last few days of school that will involve students and school staff. If the classroom event takes place outside, teachers may invite a limited number of volunteers to support the event. If volunteers join a classroom, social distancing requirements must be abided by and if the volunteer is not vaccinated, a mask is required for the duration of the event.
Artwork from 2020
If your child had artwork in the Washburn Library Art Show in February 2020 that you would like to keep, please email Ms. Barrett. Include your child's name, their classroom teacher last year, and their classroom teacher this year.
PE Bag Return
Calling all families who borrowed a gym equipment bag for distance learning! Please have your child bring their PE bag to Burroughs at some point before the end of the school year. They can bring it directly to Mr. Kramkaand Mr. Hill or there is a big blue bucket in the main entrance for collection. If something has been lost or broken, don't worry about it. Just bring back everything you have that is still in working order so it can be used in the Burroughs gym for years to come!
If your child is currently assigned an MPS device (iPad or chromebook) for distance learning and you will not be attending Minneapolis Public Schools next year we will need the device returned no later than Friday, June 18. If your children will continue in an MPS School next year, they can keep devices throughout the summer and bring them back to school in the fall.
This is a call for any media materials that students have checked out. Please begin returning items to school. There will be a box in the entry way for distance learners to return media items. An email was sent to the student’s email if there are any missing books on their account.
SY21-22 Transportation Form
Families should have received the 2021-22 Transportation request form from their teacher earlier this week. If you have not already completed it, please take a few minutes to complete the Transportation request form 2021- 2022. This form gets completed for changes whether you are staying at Burroughs next year or moving to a new school.
We recently learned that next year our 3-5 grades will be involved in the district math pilot. This will be a wonderful opportunity for Burroughs to explore a new curriculum and have a voice in the district adoption process. At this point we do not know what curriculum we will be piloting. As we learn more details about what this will look like, we will communicate with families.
Resources for Supporting Children
We continue to live in challenging and stressful times between the senseless violence that children in our city have been victim to, to violence targeting many BIPOC communities, to the continued stress of the pandemic and the changes with the CDD. All of this stress takes a toll, here are some resources to support children during these times.
