Important School Announcements
Thursday, October 7, 2021
If your child is found to be in close contact of a positive COVID case, they will be required to do a 14 day quarantine at home. Close contacts are identified by the Minneapolis Health Department and Minneapolis Public Schools. They make this determination after asking families or Burroughs staff members a series of questions. The quarantine period cannot be shortened - per district policy, it will be 14 days.
Once elementary school age children are allowed to be vaccinated, we expect quarantine guidance to mirror secondary students; vaccinated secondary students who are close contacts of a positive case are only quarantined if they develop symptoms.
Children that are home due to a quarantine will be provided with daily practice in reading, writing, and math. They also have access to lessons and activities created by our specialist teachers (linked below). Students will receive calls from a Burroughs educator at least every other day to make sure they understand the work that has been sent home. As the ability of students to work independently varies from grade to grade and student to student, the work assigned in some classes might look different than the work assigned in other classes. If you do not have a good device for your student to use if they are quarantined, please let their teacher know as soon as possible.
Specialist Website for Distance Learning
If your student needs to stay home, they can continue their specialist classes. Use this link to find lessons for Art, Music, Physical Education, and STEM (2-5): https://sites.google.com/mpls.k12.mn.us/burroughs-specialists/
Your student can select the class they usually have each day, then pick a lesson from the Choice Board. If you have questions, please email the specialist teachers.
