Social Emotional Wellness Committee

Creating connection and building resilience for a stronger community.

Mission

Our mission is to support the social and emotional wellbeing of the staff, students and families of our Burroughs community by:

1. Listening to the needs and ideas of the community

2. Advocating for existing Minneapolis Public School SEL resources

3. Offering new learning opportunities and evidence-based tools

4. Striving for inclusive practices that honor diversity, equity and justice.

The Social Emotional Wellness Committee began as an effort to introduce mindfulness practices to students, teachers and families through a partnership with Jen Feriancek of Wise Owl Mindfulness. As of 2019, leadership of mindfulness activities was transitioned to a group of parents and caregivers, supported by the Burroughs PTA. In 2020, the mindfulness committee voted to expand our work to include other activities that support the social and emotional wellbeing of our students, teachers, staff, and families. We look forward to sharing more new content with you soon! In the meantime, please explore links on this page for information on mindfulness.
