Destination Imagination:
Destination Imagination is a team-based, STEAM focused activity. Student-led teams of four to seven students solve one of a set of open-ended challenges. All challenges involve writing a creative skit and engineering challenge-specific elements. Teams present their solutions at a spring competition. Previous Burroughs teams have gone on to participate in regional, state, and global competitions. Students learn research skills, persistence, collaborative problem-solving, and engineering design. This is open to all grades.
Each team needs one to two adults who can meet with the team at Burroughs for about an hour once a week. Please email Thea Reilkoff by September 16 if you are interested in volunteering.
Burroughs First Lego League Robotics Team:
Burroughs Lego Robotics is now assessing interest for Robotics coaches. Burroughs Robotics team is for 4th and 5th graders.  This activity is great for kids with a high level of interest in robotics and programming, but no prior skills are required. This is a competitive team activity. Cost for the activity is $80 and involves weekly/twice weekly meetings from September to December. Scholarships are available to cover the cost if needed. Watch the Burroughs Bulletin for future sign up for 4th and 5th grade students. Click here to learn more about Lego Robotics.
We currently need volunteers for parent coaches. The metro-area competition takes place in December, at which point teams have the opportunity to compete to move on to the state competition level. Kids in Lego Robotics spend their time learning to program an autonomous LEGO MINDSTORMS robot and complete a project. Teams learn about the science behind the Challenge theme and design a solution to solve a real-world problem. This year's theme is City Shaper. If interested, email Michelle Peterson with information about your availability for coaching. Team spots are limited, and kids with parents who are able to coach will be given first priority for placement on a team.
Fall Ukulele Group:
Registration for first-, second- and third-grade students is open for the fall session of Uke Group for Beginners and Intermediate Uke Group. Classes begin on September 12 and September 17. Click here to learn more and to register. If you have questions, please contact
