February is Read-A-Thon Month
Tuesday, December 17, 2019 9:15 AM

February is Read-a-Thon month, where the Burroughs community celebrates reading while raising important funds for our PTA! The Read-a-Thon kicks off with an Opening Ceremony where the annual book theme is revealed. Students collect pledges based on how many minutes they will read during the month. At the end of the month, the school celebrates with a special skit, student prizes, and classroom parties. More information will be shared in January. Stay tuned to the Bulletin for more information in the coming weeks.

Read-a-Thon Committee is Seeking a Director & Skit Volunteers - Plans are underway for the fifth grade skit at the Read-a-Thon opening and closing ceremonies. The theme has been chosen, the script is created, and the rehearsal schedule and spaces have been set. However, after a long search, we are missing a Director. and dedicated skit volunteers. If you, or someone you know, could take on these important roles, please email Jen Thorp, Read-A-Thon Chair. Auditions and the weeks of dress rehearsals need several people to manage the full group, regular rehearsals should be limited to 20 kids or less, depending on the day.

Read-A-Thon Committee Volunteers - The Read-a-Thon committee is seeking many volunteers to help bring this beloved tradition to life! Many opportunities are just one time or are flexible and can be done around your schedule. Please reach out to Erin Albu, Volunteer Coordinator or Jen Thorp, Read-a-Thon Chair, with interest or questions.

Read-A-Thon Book Swap - Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 8th!  The 2nd annual book swap will be held at Burroughs again and in order to have another successful event we need books!  Please drop any good condition picture, easy readers, chapter and middle grade books in the marked bin in the atrium.  We are hoping to have a good selection of adult bestsellers, so check out your bookshelves!
