ANTI-ASIAN RACISM STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY

As anxiety and fear of COVID-19 spread, so has the surge of racist and xenophobic actions targeting Asian, Asian-American, and Asian Pacific Islander staff, students, and families. Please read this statement of solidarity by MPS staff.  The statement argues for a clear stance against anti-Asian racism & xenophobia by the MPS community. It also includes resources for community members and educators who want to stand against anti-Asian violence & racism and for Asian and Asian-American students and families directly impacted by racism incited by COVID-19.

Thank You Teachers

Yearbooks

Unfortunately we have yet to receive our yearbooks from Lifetouch.  If we receive the yearbooks before the end of the school year, we will distribute them only to 5th graders on the day when they pick up their other final items. The remainder of yearbooks will be distributed in August or when students return to on-site school. Even though a 5th grader may have a younger sibling who might be getting a yearbook too we will be holding all other yearbooks until we are together again at Burroughs. If your family will be leaving Burroughs and needs your yearbook sent to you please email Beth Alvarez and she will arrange for that yearbook to be sent to you. We are sorry for the change in the end of the year distribution of yearbooks but with social distancing restrictions and safety precautions we need to limit the number of items that we are asking families to pick up at the end of the year to essential items only.

Building Access

June 3-5 will be days for families to drive up and collect any belongings from their child's classroom or locker.  A schedule will need to be developed and plans created. Stay tuned for more information.

Specialist Page

Remember to check out the Burroughs Specialists Page for fun, active, and creative things for kids to do during distance learning and beyond.

Free Food for Children

Free weekly food boxes are available to children 18 years and younger; children do not need to be an MPS student to receive this food. All families are welcome to participate in this program. Find out more about where families can pick up food boxesOther family resources are available here while social distancing continues under COVID-19.

Social Emotional Support for Students and Resources for Families

We recognize that social distancing and distance learning has impacted children and families is many ways. Below are some resources to support the social emotional wellbeing of our community.

  • Burroughs School Social Worker, Ms. Alvarez is an excellent resource for supporting our student social emotional wellbeing during this time and connecting our families with resources.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to her at Ms. Beth Alvarez or 612-361-9474.
  • Burroughs School Psychologist, Maggie Hogan will be opening office hours to the students, staff and families of the Burroughs community! She will be available from 11 am-12 pm every Thursday through Google Meet. Join with Google Meet
  • Emotion of the Week -  Tenacious

2020-21 Classroom Placement

We are working out details for classroom placements for next school year. Given the circumstances, we will not be sending out the 'student information form' that we have in the past. If there is information about your child that you feel is important for us to know when determining classroom placement, please reach out to your child's teacher or to Principal Bartl to share that information. We DO NOT accept requests for specific teachers. Our goal with classroom placement is to create classroom groupings that are balanced and will support the social-emotional and academic needs of all students.
