Culturally Responsive Pedagogy Culturally responsive pedagogy is an approach to teaching that recognizes the importance of including students' cultural references in all aspects of learning (Ladson-Billings,1994).  As we work to create school and classroom experiences that are equitable,  safe, engaging and rigorous; cultural responsiveness and relevancy are at the heart.  Culturally responsive teaching requires teachers to know their students so that they can make learning meaningful and relevant by incorporating students' cultural experience in daily instruction.  Culturally responsive teaching embraces students' native language, communicates high expectations for all and as a result creates classroom environments that represent and respect all students.
