Join the Families for Equity and Justice Group
Tuesday, June 5, 2018 9:40 AM

Burroughs Families for Equity and Justice is a new group at Burroughs. This group is open to all members of the Burroughs community and focuses on how families can support equity at our school.
This group plans activities in six key areas:
  • Organizing and supporting Classroom Champions for each grade level to ensure there are no-cost ways for parents to connect and students to deepen relationships outside of school.
  • Ensuring diverse books are part of all classrooms and the school library, through efforts such as the Book Tree and supporting teachers by creating lists of age-appropriate diverse books to be used in classrooms.
  • Creating opportunities for community service projects that involve students from across all grade levels.
  • Connecting to other pipeline schools and collaborating with Justice Page and Washburn.
  • Raising awareness around issues of equity and inclusion, including hosting events that focus on how to talk to our kids about race and diversity in our community.
  • Working toward strong communication policies that ensure all families feel aware of and included in school activities, including translating all materials into relevant languages.

This is a group organized by parents and supported by the Burroughs administration. We would love to have you join us! All levels of commitment and talent are welcome. This is a highly inclusive group, brought together by our shared values of inclusion and equity. We will be meeting over the summer to work on these six areas. If you'd like to find out more or are interested in supporting the work in one of these key areas, please email us at burroughsracialequity@gmail.com.
