Last Call for Destination Imagination Volunteers
Tuesday, December 5, 2017 8:50 AM

We are making one last call for volunteers to lead Destination Imagination teams. Email Thea Reilkoff by December 13 if you are interested in more information, or if you are available to manage a team.
Destination Imagination is a team-based, STEAM focused activity. Student-led teams of four to seven students, along with an adult Team Manager, solve one of a set of open-ended challenges. All challenges involve writing a creative skit and engineering challenge-specific elements. Teams present their solutions at a spring competition. Previous Burroughs teams have gone on to participate in regional, state, and global competitions. Students learn research skills, persistence, collaborative problem-solving, and engineering design.
While current teams are full, there is still time to form new teams if we have additional adult participation. Each team needs one to two adults who can meet with the team at Burroughs for about an hour once a week. Adults manage the team but do not participate in solving the challenge; they provide resources and keep the team focused. Materials provided from Destination Imagination give a good framework for guiding students through the process.
