PTA Update
Tuesday, October 2, 2018 9:05 AM

The PTA thanks all of you who were able for join us for the inaugural PTA meeting of the 2018-2019 school year last Tuesday. It was great to see so many familiar faces and exciting to see so many new attendees as well. There was so much great information shared at the September meeting; if you were unable to attend, you can review the minutes here or view the PowerPoint presentation. The PTA executive board always welcomes any questions, comments or concerns; please email the PTA

Next PTA Meeting:
It's not too early to save the date for our next PTA meeting: Tuesday, November 13. As always, all are welcome, and new Burroughs families are encouraged to attend. Annual dues are $10 per person to become a voting PTA member. (You can drop off membership dues anytime in the office.) Childcare is provided for ages 3 and up.

Yubbler Update:
Thank you to the many Burroughs families who supported the PTA by purchasing school supplies from Yubbler over the summer. Burroughs earned nearly $2,000 and received a very generous $600 in donations! The PTA has worked with our social worker and autism teacher to purchase school supplies and educational materials for their students with these funds. Remaining funds will go into the PTA budget. Thank you again for supporting the PTA and Burroughs!
Meet Our PTA VP:
Hello all, I'm Britt Waterman, this year's PTA VP. For those of you who don't know me, and especially for those of you who are new to Burroughs or the Burroughs PTA, I wanted to share a little bit about myself. I have a second grader in Mr. Torline's class, and when he started kindergarten I knew no one at Burroughs. I am a working parent, so volunteer opportunities such as helping in the lunchroom and media center were not practical for me. We live outside of the Burroughs area, so I was not meeting families at the bus stop or the local playground or coffee shop. Getting involved and meeting other parents seemed like an uphill battle. I know many new families, working families, and families who have not yet found a place at Burroughs can relate.
Our goal within the PTA is to make all families feel welcome, involved, and heard. We believe we have created opportunities for everyone to contribute to the Burroughs community. I started out by volunteering for a shift at the Book Fair, which is on a Saturday (and coming up on October 6!) I made contact with the Read-A-Thon chair at a PTA meeting, and found volunteer opportunities that could be performed outside of work hours. Slowly I started making new friends and feeling more like a part of the Burroughs community.

I want to personally invite all of you to email me (or any of the executive committee members) with any questions, comments, or feedback you may have. I will do my best to listen, offer my personal experience, and connect you with someone who would be thrilled to have your participation in their activity or committee. We look forward to meeting you!

It's Easy to Get Involved!

We encourage all families to get involved in their child's education through volunteering. It's a great way to meet new friends, set a positive example, support our school's values, and foster community within Burroughs. Looking for the right fit? We can find volunteering opportunities to meet your availability and interests! If you'd like to learn more about volunteering your time and talents at Burroughs, please email PTA Volunteer Coordinator Jennie Hartman or check out the Burroughs Sign-Up Genius page. Also, keep reading the Bulletin each week for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
