Raising Kids in a Racialized World Workshops: A 3-part Series
Tuesday, January 14, 2020 9:40 AM

Join us on Monday, January 27, from 6 - 8pm in the Burroughs gym for the first of three workshops on Raising Kids in a Racialized World. Burroughs Families for Equity and Justice is bringing back Macarre Traynham to lead the workshops.
Let's Talk (Part 1) - The Dangers of a Single Story
Have you noticed the race and socioeconomics of the people who make up your inner circle? What about your neighborhood or the businesses you frequent? These spaces and social interactions act as teachers and functions to create the stories that we operate by.
During this first session explore the single stories you have about yourself, others and your school. How is the single story informed and sustained; and how is it influenced and affected by the history of race in America? Join us to explore and discuss the dangers of a single story and practical ways to illuminate and engage in broadening your perspective.
Light refreshments will be served and free childcare is provided for ages 3+.
Save the Date for Parts 2 and 3 of the series: March 16 and April 27. If you have any questions about the event, contact Jess Khan.
