Spring into Safety
As more students enjoy walking and biking to school, please review these pedestrian tips and traffic circle protocols.
Volunteer Celebration
We would like to take the opportunity to thank our wonderful volunteers for their generous gifts of time and talent, which makes a difference in the lives of the children at Burroughs. Please join us for light snacks and refreshments on Wednesday, May 30, from 4 to 5 pm in our courtyard.
All Minneapolis Public Schools have Site Councils to support school-based decision making to increase positive outcomes for our students. Site Councils are one way that parents and community members can influence what is happening in their school and take part in important decisions.

Site Council should reflect the student population of the school and ensure a diversity of ideas and input. Primary responsibilities of Site Council members include:

  • Advise the school principal or site administrator on school-based decisions.
  • Advise the principal on the use of the school budget to ensure that goals are achieved.
  • Communicate with the school community about what is happening at Site Council and other things affecting the school community.
The Burroughs Site Council has an opening for one new member for the coming school year. Site Council members serve a two-year term and meet the third Tuesday of each month from 5 to 6:30 pm, throughout the school year. If you are interested in joining the Burroughs Site Council for the 2018-2019 school year, please submit a short bio about yourself and a brief statement about why you'd like to join the council. New members will be elected by the Burroughs Community through a secret ballot via electronic survey. Submissions can be sent to Heather Rein at hnrein@yahoo.com by May 18. Balloting will happen the week of May 21, and applicants will be notified of results by May 31.
Change for a Change
Change for a Change is making an appearance again this year. We are collecting change to make a difference! Last year Burroughs Community School raised more than $1,400 in just a week of collecting change. The Change for a Change team selected The Sandwich Project MN for the charity this year. The committee selected this charity based on three important criteria: it's a local Minneapolis charity, it's on the smaller side, and it has an impact on kids and adults. The fifth-grade class will also be doing a service project at the end of the year for The Sandwich Project MN. What a great way to also provide a donation to this amazing organization!
