Second Grade Gone Fishin'
Tuesday, October 8, 2019 9:05 AM

On Friday, September 27, our Burroughs 2nd graders went on an adventure to Lake Harriet to fish and learn about our natural surroundings. We learned about fish species, habitats for fish, and how to use fishing rods and reels. One of our subjects was the concept of "catch and release" using barbless hooks. Among the highlights was a challenge to bait, catch, and unhook the fish they caught. We were able to keep track of each classroom's total by keeping the fish temporarily in a large bucket for counting; we caught 250 fish (last year we caught 170 fish). Thanks to the PTA, Active Solutions, and all the wonderful parents, friends, and helpers for supporting an outstanding memory-making event. We hope to piggyback on this event when these students come back in 3rd grade for Pedal, Paddle, Fish! Thank you to our fine 2nd grade teacher team and administration that supported us in this event!
