Volunteers are needed now to prepare Burroughs students in grades 1 through 5 for an Art AdventureArt Adventure is sponsored by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts ("Mia"), and introduces students to works of art from a variety of cultures. Our 2018-19 theme is Sources of Strength
Before Burroughs students take their field trips to Mia this December, parent volunteers visit Mia to learn about 6 pieces of the artwork from a trained museum guide, and then they discuss the works with students during their child's art classes (using reproductions and other props). No teaching or art experience is necessary because Mia trains you to be a Picture Person!
To take part in this fun volunteer opportunity:
(Password is MIA. Theme is Sources of Strength. Coordinator is Michele Peters.)
  • Gather with Burroughs Art Adventure Volunteers on November 7 from 6 to 8 pm at Harriet's Inn (4000 Lyndale Ave S). This is not mandatory but offers parents an opportunity to go over ideas of class presentations and what has been done in the past.
  • November: Present two times in your child's art class. (If there are enough volunteers in your child's classroom, you may choose to present only once.)Classroom sign-up here.
  • December: Tour Mia to see the art live with Burroughs students. (Optional for volunteers to attend, but recommended. It's fun to see the kids' excitement when they view and discuss the actual pieces!)
