Week on Wheels and Beachcombers a Huge Success
Tuesday, September 26, 2017 11:35 AM

This year, thirteen classes and more than 351 Burroughs students took to the bike paths for a tour of Lake Harriet. For a week, sixty students at a time ventured from the Burroughs gym to cruise around the lake and back or comb the beach during Physical Education. That's about 702 laps and more than 2,387 miles!  More than 300 bicycles, 150 scooters, and 12 trailers filled the gym.
The Beachcombers in K, 1st, and 2nd grades jogged or rode a scooter to and from South Beach at Lake Harriet for a combined 864 miles--whew!  The students made sand castles and learned about respectful beach and trail etiquette.
A big thank you to all of the students who shared their bikes and scooters with other students who did not have access to one. All students showed respect for other riders and lake patrons while riding; it did not go unnoticed. As always, parents and teachers, it would not have been a success without you. Thank you!
